Review: The Gastropub Bronies, Defence Colony, Delhi

One of the oldest and happening places, Defence Colony, adds one more superb place to its kitty. Bronies Gastropub, where the food sizzles with freshness, makes sure to serve its customers the best.IMG_2936

When we say a gastro pub, what we usually expect is a dark lounge space, with loud music, gastronomy and average tasting food. But to our surprise, Bronies have something more to offer. The interiors of the place are done to give it a lively movie studio look with unpainted raw walls and a big projector screen where they do the movie screening once a week.

Although the location is not so much approachable from the flyover market, you need to cross the moving traffic road to reach the place. There are two sides in the gastro pub to meet your changing moods. One side we saw a lovely alfresco space with Persian style café tables with outdoor seating covered with umbrellas. While, on the other hand, we have the indoor space with multilevel lounge and a DJ playing the grooving music. One of its own kinds, the place serves sizzler in the gastro pub where everything sizzles, from the beverages to the starters, to the main course and the best, the sizzling desert.IMG_2944

With the lovely printed chairs and exquisite menu, we are sure that the place is going to become one of the most loved places of Defence Colony. It feels so nice to see that Bronies have come up with a very good concept where they serve stone soups, cold sizzling salads, wood-fired burgers and sizzling main course meals.

Being a sunny afternoon, we chose to sit inside in their comfortable seating. We started our food journey with their special cool Russian in a jar. The lovely salad came in a jar with gastronomy sizzling effect. The salad taste yummy, but it was a kind of challenge to hold the jar, every time you dig in the spoon to have a bite.IMG_2942

The brinjal fries on gastronomic plate was something so special and different we tried at Bronies. The excitement to have these increased manifolds when we saw it being served with hot bean sauce. The crispiness of the fries was intact till the last bite.

To move ahead and to order the main course, we chose the following:

  • Thai Red Curry Veg – served again on a sizzler platter, the Thai curry tasted pretty good. The curry had lots of veggies and was served with jasmine rice. We fell in love with this one.
  • To have some Indianized flavours, we chose paneer tikka butter masala with char grilled tandoori veggies and mini naan. Unlike the perception of having an average tasting food in a gastro pub, Bronies made sure that the food at their place taste equally good as the experience of the gastronomy and bar.

It was the time to make our sweet tooth happy with their lovely desserts. We chose apple pie in a jar (with cinnamon ice cream) and cheeky chocolate monkey. Apple pie was too sweet for the sweet tooth, but had a perfect flavor of the cinnamon ice cream. However, cheeky chocolate monkey had no chocolate in it. When asked, they just confirmed that the name has chocolate as to symbolize naughty monkey. It tasted more like a banana split. However, the presentations of both the desserts were very nice.IMG_2960
